Monthly Update - Out of the bottle and into the decor... Cork is making a comeback!

Happy New Year everyone! Now I'm sure all of us enjoyed a little bubbly over the festive season, and wino's of the world can agree that drinking lots of wine often results in an excessive number of wine corks... What matters is what you do with them. Here we shall explore the wondrous material that is cork...

Have you heard that cork is making a comeback? Cork is both stylish, warm and great at reducing the level of noise/sound when used within a large space. It can be used for a statement textured wall or even a pair of shoes... Macer says 'It's used in coffee table bases in combination with stone tops, and a solid cork stool or side table'.

Every year, the equivalent of 31 billion bottles of wine are consumed worldwide. Often the stoppers in these bottles are thrown away and litter our landfills. So why not recycle them instead, where the corks will get ground down and developed into new products. As an extremely versatile material, cork can be used in a variety of products and replace environmentally harmful foams and plastics otherwise used. Cork's naturally durable, moisture-wicking, lightweight and rot-resistant qualities make it perfect for re-purposing into a variety of eco-friendly products. Check out these 100% recycled cork products here...

This modern home in upstate New York by Hoover Architecture uses cork flooring to add warmth to it's interior.

How about a textured statement wall using cork? It's ideal for keeping noise to a minimum.
Another way of creating a textured wall is using cork tiles to add a beautifully rugged yet comfortable aesthetic, like at the OXO International Headquarters by Specht Harpman.
You can even make use of that textured wall by using it as a pin board for all those important notes!

Not brave enough to have an entire cork wall... how about a basic cork board?
Or use an up-cycled old mirror for those quirkier ideas...
What about using that cork for a funky splash back.

They've even thought about Cork Boots! The cork is flexible, warm and waterproof making it ideal and probably the most comfortable pair of boots you can own. These boots by RAP will be available from Bubble London in September later this year.

There are just so many uses for cork, both in up-cycling and recycling, and we have only just scratched the surface.
