Subterranean Bike Paths In London's Future

Could London be looking at a whole new way of pedestrian travel?

Gensler's design of 'The London Underline'  is a unique conceptual idea to tackle the strain of London street traffic by creating...
an underground pedestrian and bike tunnel, utilising the old and disused metro stations and tunnels still situated right underneath the feet of Londoner's. Everyone who has visited central London has experienced the nightmare of human congestion; especially during rush hours. Gensler plans to create a safe-haven for pedestrians and cyclists during these busy times and intends to offer opportunities for vibrant new sites for pop-up businesses, exhibitions, retail and event space. With societies growing urban curiosity and alternative transport methods, The London Underline embraces this by offering London the first citywide network of its kind.

Utilising technologies that have been progressing in the pipeline for several years, The London Underline project will be the first in the UK to use the kinetic energy from travellers and exchanging that into electricity to power these underground systems, making it self-sustaining. Gensler designer Trevor To explains, "This approach to urban infrastructure is key to a carbon-neutral community, and London could lead the world once again in merging tradition with innovation to create a better future."

Could this be the future of dynamic subterranean travel through the emergence of kinetic energy technology, London's acceptance of alternative transport, and Londoners' insatiable urban curiosity?

So far these are the routes proposed for these dynamic paths.
