The Kitchen Island Aquarium

Have you ever heard of a kitchen island aquarium before? Well you're in for a treat...

Who would have imagined that someone would take the name 'Kitchen Island' so literally but what a spectacular thought! Imagine having little fish swimming happily in their own salt water tank right underneath your cooking surfaces whilst you prepare your meal, just how magical would that be. Well some made that a dream come true.

Aquarium-lovers can rejoice, as Dutch designer Robert Kolenik has created a new design for an aquarium built within a kitchen island, appropriately named the 'Ocean Keuken'.

This well thought out and beautiful piece makes a gorgeous combination of counter-top, aquarium and useful cabinets as well as creating a wonderful center piece to a room. The inbuilt cabinets cleverly feature mirrors to give off the illusion of an even larger aquarium; making it look bigger than it is.

Maybe you'd want one as a personal aquarium to harbor all your favourite exotics or maybe you'd like it to be slightly more of a practical addition to you kitchen as it can also accommodate many delicacies for food too; be it lobsters, a variety of salt-water fish, shellfish and even shrimp.

Another great feature for this innovative tank, is the ease of access to the pipes and hoses of the counter appliances as well and the tank itself. The counter top is cleverly made with tricky machinery that lifts the counter at a press of a button, to allow access for maintenance, cleaning and feeding the fish (or them feeding you).

Without further ado, feast your eyes on this wonderful design...
